Building Healthy Families for the Future

The Building Healthy Families for the Future Pilot Project is a presidential project led by the Department of Social Services and Population Development. The main objective being to graduate 500 identified households out of poverty. The households were identified by using a set of predetermined criteria. The project started with the first phase which was to conduct a needs analysis of these identified households.
Geographically these households are located throughout the Northern Cape Province and cover five districts namely:
Frances Baard
John Taolo Gaetsewe
Siyanda
Namakwa
Pixley ka Seme
Additionally Phase 1 included the development of a questionnaire that was used in the survey. The survey was conducted by the district social workers who were inducted on the questionnaire. The total number of households was surveyed and all the results were compiled and analysed in an electronic database.
After the results were analysed it was prevalent that a number of factors were influencing the families. These factors include inter alia infrastructure, access to services, low education levels, minimal work experience and literacy.
